چکیده

The preservation of water resources in modern urbanized society is a major concern. In this study, floating constructed wetland (FWT) pilot plant was designed and for the treatment polluted wastewater drain. A series experiments were run continuously year pilot-scale FWTs semi-arid area located Egypt’s Delta. Four aquatic species (Eichhornia, Ceratophyllum, Pistia stratiotes, Nymphaea lotus) used to assess performance pollutant removals, such as biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), chemical (COD), total suspended solids (TSS), nitrogen (TN), phosphorus (TP), electrical conductivity (EC), dissolved (TDS), from drainage reuse treated effluent irrigation practices. FWT systems fed tainted on weekly basis, concentrations removal efficiency assessed experiments. average reduction BOD, COD, TSS, TDS, TN, EC, TP 76–86%, 61–80%, 87–95%, 36.6–44.1%, 70–97%, 37–44%, 83–96%, respectively. ANOVA with Post-HOC t-tests show that Eichhornia, lotus have highest BOD COD performance, whereas stratiotes TN performance. all cases, performed well terms removal. addition, design procedure presented. For treatment, proven be low-cost, long-term option.

Floating treatment wetlands for domestic wastewater treatment.

Floating islands are a form of treatment wetland characterized by a mat of synthetic matrix at the water surface into which macrophytes can be planted and through which water passes. We evaluated two matrix materials for treating domestic wastewater, recycled plastic and recycled carpet fibers, for chemical oxygen demand (COD) and nitrogen removal. These materials were compared to pea gravel or...

Constructed Wetlands for Wastewater Treatment: A Review

The first experiments on the use of wetland plants to treat wastewaters were carried out in the early 1950s by Dr. Käthe Seidel in Germany. The first full scale systems were put in operation during the late 1960s and since then constructed wetland systems have been spreading throughout the world. At present, there are several types of constructed wetlands used for wastewater treatment. Free wat...

Applications of Constructed Wetlands for Wastewater Treatment

During the past decades, the high cost of conventional treatment processes has produced much economic pressure and they are not as natural methods as we expected. Thus, engineers begin to search for some creative, cost effective, and environmentally sound ways to treat wastewaters. Constructed wetland is a man made system which provides us many benefits and it is a very attractive way for many ...
